Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on physical fitness prevention and treatment of injuries related to exercise and sports. It is a fast-growing healthcare field given the fact that sport medicine specialists not only take care of athletes but anyone who is hurt while performing a physical activity. This includes: people who participate in sports just for fun or are looking for better results through their exercise programs, those patients who had injuries and want to regain full function of their bodies and those people who have disabilities and want to increase their capabilities and mobility.
Attaining a medical license sets the minimum capability requirements to diagnose and treat patients. A medical license is not specialty specific. Board Certification validates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or sub-specialty of medical practice.
